Chains at a chain

When: May 23rd 2011
Where: Best Buy Union Sq NYC, USA
Why: In store promo visit

Lady Gaga makes an in-store appearance at Best Buy NYC to promote Born This Way. And what better way to get the punters attention than this amazing leather getup with a nice bondage touch here and there. Gold chains complimented the rest of this outfit along with fishnets and black thigh-highs. Go Girl! The monsters certainly loved every moment even though some of them had been waiting up to 30 hours in all weathers. I guess she just inspires that sort of devotion.

Red Lace at MTV awards

When: 2009 MTV Awards
Where: New York/ Radio City Music Hall
Why: About to receive award for Best New Artist

Hiya! I imagine whoever was sat next to our sainted Lady of Gaga found it hard to keep a straight face but then again this is the MTV awards were talking about so anything goes right? This see-through blood red lace mini dress worn over underwear with matching 'Bridal Headress' was the perfect showstopper. A rather grumpy looking Eminem presented the award. Probably just jealous he hadn't thought of the same outfit. Bless him!

The Meat Dress

When: September 12th 2010
Where: Los Angeles MTV awards acceptance speech
Why: Hhhmmmnnn all sorts of reasons

Probably Gaga's most iconic moment so far, the amazing 'meat dress' is now to be displayed to the public at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Gaga wore this outfit, made out of layers of Argentinian beef, at the MTV Video Music Awards. Designed by Franc Fernandez and Nichola Formichetti, Gaga later told US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres that the dress had "many interpretations". She said "If we don't stand up for what we believe in, and if we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones. And, I am not a piece of meat" Gaga caused maximum controversy by wearing this piece of BBQ Couture including a meat fascinator and purse. This almost overshadowed the fact that she picked up eight awards, the most for any artist in 23 years.

For it's preparation at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the hand-sewn dress was kept in a meat locker then placed in a vat of special chemicals. This was followed by a drying out process by a team of taxidermists before being shipped of to the museum. Finishing touches including restoring the meat/garment to its original colour as it had started to dehydrate and gone a bit 'Jerkyesque'...

The Bubble Dress

When: 2009
Where: Various Venues
Why: Tour outfit

Wraptastic! Ok they're not actual bubbles, but actual plastic balls formed into one of Gaga's leotards. It's a  high end knockoff of sorts as the inspiration comes from Hussein Chalayan's spring 2007 runway show. At the time of this tour there wasn't the budget for the original. Gaga had become synonymous with wearing 'out there' leotards up until this point but she started adopting all sorts of new looks by the time the tour started.  This coat made of bubbles made an impact as it left little to the imagination whereas the original covered the crotch area. Gaga wore this bubble dress on her 23 date Fame Ball tour. The other highly original thing about this dress is that it merged clothes and instrument design as the theme of bubbles carries on into the perspex 'piano' that she's playing. Classic Gaga and 'Haus' style in that she references someone's idea and just enhances it to a whole new level! Go Girl!

Gaga Meets the Queen

When: 8th December 2009
Where: Blackpool, UK
Why: Royal Variety

Let's be honest Blackpool is used to the odd Queen or two but it hadn't seen anything like this for a while. Gaga wore a huge red PVC outfit with Elizabethan style frills as she met her HRH. The Royal Family are not known for 'lovin it' when it comes to the Royal Variety show but the Queen appeared to be giggling as she spoke to GaGa and seemed to be entranced by her unique attire. I'm sure a lady in waiting was swiftly dispatched to get the 'Haus' phone no for any future styling tips.

The custom designed Atsuko Kudo outfit featured a 20ft long cloak and Elizabethan-style collar. For the actual performance she played a "floating" Dali style piano which was suspended on giant stilts.  She greeted the audience by saying "Good evening Blackpool. Let me hear you rattle your jewellery,". It was obviously a family affair as she went on to say "My father is here tonight and I wrote this song for him, it's called Speechless." And for once I imagine Blackpool's Glitterati were just that...

The Kermit Dress

When: July 2009
Where: German Television
Why: Interview

Displaying her original fashion sense our sainted lady of GaGa donned a jacket made completely of Kermit the Frog dolls while being interviewed for a German television show Punkt 6 on Monday July 20th 2009.

“My friends and I in New York dress this way because it’s the way we live,” Gaga explained! “We believe in vanity.”

The green furry creation by designer Jean Charles de Castelbajac was hung with dozens of recently decapatated Kermies!

The Kermie jacket isn't the first time the Gaga has channelled the spirit of the muppets. In Manchester in the same year she wore a puffball dress styled on the character Animal from the much loved kids show.
